Walking

Walking in Aberdeenshire is a true pleasure and one of the absolute highlights of a stay in the area.  With everything from long flat loch-side walks to short woodland walks and many climbing walks of all degrees of difficulty there really is something for everyone.

Ballater is an excellent base from which to explore these walks and at The Gordon we have an extensive library of maps and walking guides to help you enjoy a day away from the car.  We even have a long list of walks from a flat 2Km to a 30Km Munro for you to choose from to meet your skill level.

With wonderful Gaelic names like Braeriach, Ben Macdui and Beinn a'Bhuird climbing a Munro (a hill over 3000 feet) can be a real achievement for a day's effort, we do breakfast from 6am to allow you an early start.  Aberdeenshire has 30 Munros all of which are accessible from the Guest House.  There is even a strenuous climb to the Corbett of Morven which can be done as an out and back from the Guest House.

Once back we have a drying room for your gear and a village full of excellent eateries.   If you might have sore joints why not book room 1 which has a jacuzzi bath for you to relax in!

If you prefer something more organised why not come and stay during Ballater Walking Week in May where a full programme of guided walks are on offer.  In the same week we also welcome walkers doing the trans-Scotland TGO Challenge.
