Balmoral Castle

The biggest tourist attraction is the local area by far is the private royal residence of Balmoral Castle.  Situated just 15 minutes drive from The Gordon this stunning castle was completed in 1856 for Prince Albert and Queen Victoria and was the site of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

From Easter until the end of July visitors can tour the stunning grounds, visit the castle ballroom and enjoy a cucumber sandwich and cake high tea at the castle cafe all the while surrounded by the most amazing Cairngorms scenery.

From October until March in 2022 and 2023 the grounds have been opened for free by His Majesty King Charles III and this may happen again during 2024.  Please visit the Castle website for the most up to date information.

Please note the grounds and castle are usually closed during August and some of September when the Royal family are in residence.
